House Captains & Shirts

By Chad Walsh / September 20, 2024 / Middle Loop Muster

Dear Middle Loop Learners & Families,

For those who were able to join the Head of School Coffee Morning on Wednesday, thank you for coming. It was great to see you!  Here is the presentation for those who could not attend.

Talking about mornings, the 7:15am to 7:45am morning time in the ML lounge is filled with an infectious buzz as learners gather to connect, chat, and enjoy a variety of activities. Whether they're engaged in lively games of chess, ping pong, or basketball, or simply socializing with friends, the space is alive with energy and excitement. This special time offers a wonderful opportunity for learners to bond and be together before the day begins. The uplifting atmosphere in the lounge sets a positive tone for the day and highlights the joy of community and connection at VERSO.

House Captains | Learning Leadership

messageImage_1726469357377Interested and motivated learners are invited to present a 2-minute verbal pitch for the opportunity to become a House Captain. In their presentation, they will respond to three key questions: (1) Why do they want to take on this role? (2) How do they plan to inspire and motivate their peers? (3) What specific initiatives will they implement to strengthen and unite the school community? This is a chance for learners to demonstrate their leadership potential, creativity, and commitment to fostering a positive and connected environment at VERSO.

House Captain voting will soon take place, and we are excited to announce that the elected House Captains for LL, ML, and UL will be revealed during Spirit Week's Future Ready Friday on 27 September. This is a great opportunity for learners to participate in choosing leaders who will represent and inspire their peers throughout the year. We encourage everyone to stay tuned and be ready to celebrate the new House Captains who will help shape and strengthen our school community!

Remember to order and pay for the House T-shirts so the learners can wear them during VERSOlympics on 25 September.

English Tutoring| C5-6 & C7-8

We are currently exploring the possibility of bringing in an external provider for English tutoring as an ECA starting in Q2. At this stage, we are still reviewing various options, packages, and possibilities based on the valuable feedback we've received from the ConVERSOs. This would be an offering that families could purchase, as part of our broader commitment to strengthening EAL support. Our goal is to ensure that all learners have the opportunity to further develop their vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing skills. We will share more details with you as we finalize plans. For now, we wanted to let you know that we are actively researching different solutions, with the intention of providing this service on our VERSO campus. Below is one of the providers we are talking with at the moment.

At this point we have 11 interested students from ML who want to be part of this as an ECA in Q2. Please email chad.walsh@verso.ac.th if you would like to sign up for Q2 and be part of this English tutoring programScreenshot 2567-09-17 at 13.50.02

Basketball Updates| LearningJournalists

The basketball season is in full swing! The VERSO Vipers U11 Boys & Girls teams electrified the court in their electrifying debut against Wellington on 16 September. Our young athletes had a blast, demonstrating their teamwork, building new friendships, and honing their athletic prowess. It was an inspiring bonding experience!

Recapping the first game and moving forward, Mr. Josh, the U11 Girls’ Coach, said “When we are practicing at this time of the season, we are not just growing our basketball knowledge and our physical fitness but we are also growing our thinking about how teams operate. I am excited to see if we can get that under control.”

Mr. Garrett, Director of Athletics & ECA, and the U11 Boys’ Coach, said, "I couldn’t be prouder of both our U11 boys and girls teams. Both teams were a bit nervous at first, but as the games went on, they got more comfortable and really started working together. It’s important to remember that this journey is about more than just the score—it’s about the process of learning to be part of a team, becoming learner-athletes, and growing both on and off the court. I’m excited to see them continue to improve and gain confidence throughout the season."

We can't wait to pump up the energy and show our support for the VERSO teams in their upcoming face-off against Saint Andrews on 28 October.

Let's go Vipers!

Dance Workshops | Performing Arts

Our Cohort 5-6 learners have been engaged in a Dance Learning Lab. We have been investigating what makes dances popular online while practicing various skills and techniques. This Lab featured our guest dancer who taught a new routine to the group. Dancing has proven to be both physically and mentally challenging, but the process has been rewarding, with learners experiencing breakthroughs like learning the moonwalk. The learners deserve recognition for pushing their boundaries, working together effectively, and enjoying themselves through performing arts. This Lab demonstrates how dance education combines creativity with dedicated practice.
