ML Muster: Hello 2025
Dear Middle Loop Learners & Families,
As we step into 2025, we are thrilled to welcome back our returning Middle Loop (ML) learners and extend a warm greeting to the new members of our community. The start of a new year is always an exciting opportunity to reconnect, set intentions, and embark on new learning adventures together.
Sharing Our Holiday Highlights
We hope you all enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating holiday break filled with memorable moments. As we gather back on campus, we encourage learners to share their holiday experiences with peers and advisors. These stories not only help us reconnect but also remind us of the diverse and vibrant community we are building at VERSO. Whether you explored new places, spent time with family, or discovered a new hobby, we can’t wait to hear all about it!
Setting Expectations for 2025
At VERSO, we strive to create an environment where every learner is ‘DRIVEN to CONTRIBUTE.’ This mindset underpins our approach to learning as we focus on presenting our work to authentic audiences, prototyping solutions, and testing ideas with users. In the Middle Loop, we encourage all learners to take ownership of their learning journeys, actively participate in projects, and approach challenges with curiosity and resilience.
Responsible Technology Use
As we integrate technology into our learning, we reinforce the importance of using it responsibly. While technology is a powerful tool for research, collaboration, and learning, it’s equally important to establish boundaries. We ask our learners to:
-
Use devices for educational purposes during school hours, focusing on research, project work, and creative tasks.
-
Save social media and YouTube viewing for after school hours to maintain a productive learning environment.
-
Practice mindful and respectful digital habits, ensuring technology supports rather than distracts from their goals.
We are pleased to share that we have seen significant improvement in learners making better choices about their focus and attention in the classroom. This progress reflects their commitment to growth and our shared efforts in cultivating a community of responsible digital citizens.
Looking Ahead
2025 promises to be a year filled with discovery, innovation, and collaboration. Through our ‘X Time’ initiative and well-being workshops, learners will continue to develop the skills and mindsets necessary for their personal and academic growth. We are excited to see the incredible projects, prototypes, and ideas our ML learners will bring to life this year.
Math Lab 6
With a large Grade 6 group we have now split Math Lab 6. A big thank you to Mr. Wit for taking on Math Lab 6 for Q2. We now have Mr. Josh Jones taking over from Mr. Wit where he will now teach half of the class for Math Lab 6. This ensures that a manageable Learner Designer-to-learner ratio is maintained. We have had a hand-over process for Mr. Josh and Mr. Arthur is also part of those planning sessions to ensure consistency and continuity.
Remember ECA for Q3 begins Monday 20 Jan 2025.
Let’s make this year a memorable and impactful chapter in our VERSO journey.
Here’s to a fantastic start to 2025!

C5-6 ShowTime | Data and Visual Arts
🌟 Thank You for Joining Our Grade 5-6 ShowTime! 🌟
A heartfelt thank you to all the parents and families who joined us for the Grade 5-6 ShowTime! Your presence and support made this event truly special, as our learners proudly showcased their artwork and used data to raise awareness about endangered animals.
This showcase was more than just an exhibition—it was a platform for our learners to share their passions, communicate critical messages, and inspire others to take action. Through their creativity and data-driven insights, they brought attention to the urgent need for conservation and protection of endangered species, sparking meaningful conversations about how we can all contribute.
ShowTime is a fantastic opportunity for our learners to practice their presentation skills, build confidence, and connect with a real audience. Seeing their hard work acknowledged by such an engaged and encouraging crowd is invaluable for their growth and development.
Thank you for being part of this memorable experience and for supporting our learners on their journey of discovery and contribution. Together, we are empowering them to use their voices and talents to make a difference!

C7-8 Explore | Shark Tank Style
Excitement filled the air as Cohort 7-8 learners stepped into the spotlight to pitch their ideas to the Sharks, inspired by the iconic Shark Tank model. In a dynamic showcase of creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking, seven groups presented compelling solutions to challenges within our community.
The learners tackled a variety of topics, each idea addressing a specific need or opportunity:
- A Monitoring System at VERSO: Designed to streamline processes and enhance our campus environment.
- Building Culture: A project aimed at fostering a sense of unity and shared values across the school.
- Enhancing Team Sport Coverage: An initiative to amplify visibility and appreciation for our athletes.
- Garden Community Project: A green-thumb approach to sustainability and community connection.
- Communication App with Translation Features: A groundbreaking tool to bridge language gaps and ensure inclusivity.
Each group outlined the challenges they identified, the innovative solutions they proposed, the potential impact of their projects, and the resources or support they would need to bring their ideas to life. The pitches were not only well-thought-out but also delivered with remarkable confidence and passion.
We extend our gratitude to all the groups for their outstanding presentations and to our Sharks for their thoughtful questions and feedback. The creativity and drive demonstrated during this event truly embodied VERSO's spirit of being Driven to Contribute.
Stay tuned as some of these ideas take root and grow into transformative initiatives for our community!
Q2 VERSO 360 Report| 31 January 2025
We are excited to announce that the VERSO 360 Report for Quarter 2 will be emailed to families on Friday, 31 January. These 360s are an excellent opportunity to connect, reflect, and set meaningful goals as we prepare for Quarter 3. They provide valuable insights into each learner’s journey, highlighting their achievements and areas for growth.
We would also like to share that we are reviewing our current VERSO 360 Reports which will be conducted in a few different phases.
Phase 1: Learning Designer feedback
Phase 2: VERSOnians prototype and test
Phase 3: Open to all parents interested
Phase 4: Synthesizing feedback and deciding on possible enhancements and changes
As part of Phase 1 in gaining insights from our Learning Designers, we asked for their perspectives on what we need to add, delete, emphasize, or reduce in a child’s VERSO 360 from an educator’s viewpoint.
Key areas discussed included:
Learning Objectives
Narrative Observations/Evaluations
Personal & Social Development
Learner Reflection/Self
Learner-set Goals
Parent/Guardian Collaboration
Participation in Class Learning
Participation Beyond the Class
Skills of Strength
Next Steps for Learning
Evidence of Learning
Growth Over Time
Finding the right balance in emphasizing these aspects is a complex challenge. This is why we need to open this process to parents, as the ultimate users, to learn from your insights. Our goal is to evolve the VERSO 360s to maximize the time and effort invested in crafting them while ensuring they provide key information that is useful and impactful for families.
To keep things focused, we have decided on the following prompts and will test these out with the VERSOnians first. Each parent will receive their child's VERSO 360 and the Curriculum Quarterly (CQ) that accompanies it to illustrate connection between these two vital documents. These are the questions we are interested in learning more about from you:
Possible Prompts to get the thinking started:
To what extent is there a strong connection between CQs and VERSO 360s?
What do yo want/need to know from your child's VERSO 360?
What would you like to see more of in the VERSO 360?
What would you like to see less of in the VERSO 360?
To enhance this process, we will be hosting a session to gather feedback from parents. This session will focus on ways we can refine and improve our VERSO 360s to ensure they are more informative and accessible. Our goal is to make the 360s more effective in demonstrating measurable progress and providing a clear understanding of where your child is in their learning.
We look forward to your participation and insights as we work together to strengthen our communication and support every learner’s success. More information to follow on the process and timeframe soon.
