The C1-2 learners designed and created shoes as part of their Shoe Design Challenge. With empathy as the foundation of the design thinking process, they were taught to understand their user, Ms. L’s specific shoe needs and to gather as much information as possible regarding her preferences. They had to think of strategies on their own that would make them win the challenge and meet 3 criteria: comfort, durability, and aesthetics. They then created prototypes of the shoes and met the user to get feedback, before refining their design. Throughout this challenge, they were engaged with different mathematical concepts and skills, including measurement and geometry.
