Healthy Choices in Early Years (Written by Chandler)

This week in Early Years, our goal has been to make healthy choices and each learner has been challenged to try a piece of fruit each day. We marked each fruit they tried on a chart in the snack room. Learners have enjoyed reflecting on the most and least popular fruits each day. We have expanded on this topic through role-play activities and our story of the week. This week the book was Handa's Surprise. Learners have been "shopping" in our "market" to create a healthy plate that consists of balanced portions of fruit, vegetables, carbohydrates, and protein. Next week, our goal will be to try a vegetable each day. Thanks to our parents for supporting us by sending nutritious snacks. We hope this will help our young learners become more aware of the nutrients they put into their bodies.

Nutritious Snacks and Lunch

As our Early Years have been focusing on healthy eating, the rest of the Lower Loop is also following their lead. We ask that Lower Loop learners bring healthy snacks and refrain from sharing food in school. We will continue encouraging your children to make balanced choices at lunchtime. As ASAs continue, please consider sending a healthy snack for your children to consume before their activities. Lunchtime in the Lower Loop ends at noon and your children may need a small boost of energy before their afternoon activities.

Rain Gear and Change of Clothes

This week's wet weather is a good reminder to make sure your child has a change of clothing and rain gear at school. As always, please make sure anything you send from home is labeled with your child's name.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Stay dry!
