Chinese Learning

In Cohort 3-4, learners connected with a school in Shenzhen, China, through writing letters. They exchange letters to learn about each other and share information about the main festivals in Thailand and China.

In EY and Cohort 1-2, learners focused on describing their learning space (classroom) to a visitor. They are learning about stationary, furniture, and electronic devices. Also, they have been practicing asking questions to find specific objects within the classroom.

Thai Culture Classes

Written by Joe

Capture11-1As part of our Thai Culture curriculum, all EY and LL learners are exploring Thai cuisine's history, geography, and culture.

We are exploring the unique flavors and techniques that make Thai food so delicious and popular worldwide. They are learning four different parts of Thailand cuisine, comparing the ingredients and tastes. They have also been learning about what makes these cuisines unique.

The unit has included hands-on cooking activities where students have been preparing and tasting authentic Thai dishes. This unit is not only teaching your child valuable culinary skills but will also prepare life skills for our learner's future. Try having them help with preparing meals at home!

C3-4 Showtime: Computer Science

On Wednesday, March 15, our C3-4 students hosted a Showtime for parents and other students. This is a culmination of a Learning Lab combining two subjects: Computer Science and Writing. The driving question was: "How might we use computer science to create games to share with others?" They also learned the art of persuasion. First, the learners made persuasive speeches about a technology-related topic to their parents. Students tried to convince their parents for more coding opportunities or more screen time or to buy them a Nintendo Switch. While the topics were diverse, it was evident that our learners had learned many persuasive tools to support their opinions with facts, rhetorical questions, and expert opinions. Second, they opened their "arcade"  where visitors could play the games they created using Scratch or MakeCode. This unit started with guest speakers, trips, coding workshops, and tinkering with different programs. It was rewarding to see everyone's hard work come to life!

Reusable and Recyclable Materials for EY4-5

EY4-5  would love more materials to use to create! They will use these materials to improve our garden by making plant pots and working on a self-watering system using plastic bottles. The learners will also create an under-the-sea-themed piece of art with bottle caps.

Please drop off plastic bags, bottles, boxes, and bottle caps in the Lower Loop Foyer.

VERSOlympics for C1-2 and C3-4

After a postponement and anxiously checking the AQI and weather, we finally hosted our second annual VERSOlympics for C1-2 and C3-4 learners! The event was a chance for students to try and beat their personal best in various activities. They rotated in small groups through stations for running, jumping, and throwing. Thank you for all of the family support and enthusiasm!
