ML Muster: That's a Wrap!

By Chad Walsh / June 15, 2023 / Middle Loop Muster

A big thank you goes out to our learners, parents, and Learning Design Team for making the year such a success. We're not going to stop there, next year we have even bigger plans and goals as we continue to grow and learn together!

It truly is an absolute privilege to be part of the VERSO story and have such a diverse and rich learner population that defines our school culture. We are very proud of what we have achieved and accomplished together over the year.

ShowTime

Thank you for supporting our Learning Lab and Explore ShowTimes last week. We have an excellent turnout from parents.

The 5-6 ShowTime was brilliant in creating an opportunity for learners to perform a play that was written entirely by learners. It showcased the positive and negative (yin and yang) impact of advancements (technology and science) throughout history. What a fun time to be in the audience.

The 7-8 ShowTime show how loop systems work together to build a sustainable community. Having a panel of judges challenge ideas and connect to how their expertise relates is another real-life experience for our learners.

The Explore ShowTime was a static display of their work that demonstrated their process and product. Having learners discuss their ideas and share their stories is exactly what we are aiming for at VERSO to build confidence to lead their own journey!

VERSO 360 Report | Q4

You will be receiving your child's VERSO Q4 report on Friday,16 June. Please take some time to review it with your child. Ask them questions, and open up the conversation for them to share more about their learning. If there are any discrepancies or inaccuracies, parents have 5 days to email the Middle Loop Leader to raise any questions. After this 5-day grace period, all VERSO 360s will be archived and become official records.

You will notice a subtle change in the Q4 reports in terms of the assessment scale used. We are using a wider continuum and have clear categories across Novice, Apprentice, and Strategic Learner. These changes were in response to the ML and UL finding greater alignment for offering feedback and evaluating learning. More information on the transfer terms and language is outlined in your child's VERSO 360 How to Guide. We hope that you find the evaluation of learning and feedback informative, and insightful by providing an accurate picture of your child's progress and competency level.

VERSO's Got Talent

Thank you to the parents who were able to join VERSO's Got Talent. Providing opportunities for learners to share and show their talents in a fun and relaxed environment was really inspiring. It was a special experience and bringing the ML community together was a proud moment. To see learners have a go and share in front of an audience really builds confidence. A big shout out to Mr. Graham for making the event happen and supporting the ML students during lunch breaks so they could express themselves in creative ways! Bravo!

Transition - Coming and Going

Life is all about transition. It is one of our VERSO mindsets - Equipped to Transition. While there have been opportunities for the grade 4s to connect with C5-6, grade 6 to connect with grade 7, and grade 8 to connect with C9-10, we have created many BTW transition opportunities to get our best foot forward for next year. Below are some of those experiences captured in motion.

Jonathan (C5-6 Cohort Leader) has already organized a BTW overnight trip in the first week of the new school year in August 2023 to build community and strengthen relationships to start the year off right. Information about the purpose and logistics of this trip will be shared with you and a parent presentation will be offered during the onboarding week on the New and Returning Family Orientation day on 7 August. This is our commitment to learning and working together and healthy and happy relationships help create a positive culture!

Thank you for your support throughout the year. There is much to celebrate and be proud of. I personally want to thank the Middle Loop Learning Design Team for their dedication and commitment to providing a quality learning program and supporting learners along the way. Jennie and John will be leaving the Middle Loop team and off to new adventures. We wish them the very best in their next chapter.

Once again, talking about transitions, there will be 2 new Learning Designers joining the team. We have Dan Hyman (from the UK) who will be joining the C7-8 team and Traci Toothman (from the US) joining the C5-6 team. Shanna Crawford who is currently in the Middle Loop, will be the new Well-Being Learning Designer next school year. We are super excited for next year in the Middle Loop!

For families who are leaving VERSO, we want to wish you the very best for the future. For families returning, we look forward to building and learning together and we're thrilled to share this journey with you.

Take care, happy holidays, and our sincere gratitude for your support!

Best regards,

Chad Walsh and the Middle Loop Team
